What to Wear to Glyndebourne Festival

With the final weekend of the summer programme nearly upon us, you may be wondering what to wear to Glyndebourne Festival 2021. Whilst there is no official dress code, most guests take the opportunity to dress up. Glyndebourne Festival is the perfect excuse to treat yourself to some new formal wear or bring out your old favourites. The Glyndebourne website reads ‘We love to see formal or vintage attire or the height of contemporary fashion’ in the advice on what to wear.

Black tie is by far the most popular choice for gents, however a summer blazer and panama hat, or coloured jacket and floral bow tie would be just as at home. For ladies this is a great opportunity to make a statement, don a fabulous full length gown and gloves, sophisticated summer dress, or even trouser suit. Don’t forget your jacket or wrap for cooler days/evenings and lawn friendly sensible heels rather fine stilettos which may be prone to sinking.

We’ve put together a selection a jewellery ideas perfect for Glyndebourne, with some styling suggestions below. Whatever you choose, don’t be afraid to express yourself with your style!

Lapis Lazuli

Lapis Lazuli is one of our favourite gemstones. Its vivid blue is sure to add wow factor to any outfit. This beautiful waterfall coat, available from the Glyndebourne shop, would look stunning set of with one off our striking necklaces. Our favourite designs include this fabulous teardrop pendant on a torc, and our lapis tab necklace, as well as two different collar necklaces: 6mm and 12mm. The jacket is handmade in lightweight silk, and is also reversible for two different styles.

The Signet Ring: You Don’t Have To Be an Aristocrat To Wear One

The Signet Ring is Back in Fashion!

Once known as the ‘gentleman’s ring’, the Signet Ring has made a comeback in fashion! Centuries ago, this engraved ring would feature a family crest or coat of arms and be used to seal letters. Thus, authenticity was easy to determine. Now, however, the signet ring has made somewhat of a comeback. Last year, the comeback was given true credibility when Alessandro Michele, Creative Director for Gucci, littered the runways with rings throughout fashion shows last year.

If you’re thinking about buying any new jewellery this autumn, whether it be a treat for yourself or a gift you should consider a signet ring. At this stage, we wanted to share some knowledge about these beautiful rings:

Signet Ring

Would you like to feel like an ancient Egyptian pharaoh?

The name ‘signet’ actually means ‘to seal’, which has very much been the main use of this ring. In fact, the earliest signet rings can be traced back to ancient Egypt, over 4,000 years ago. The pharaohs and certain senior officials would use the ring to seal business transactions.

Signet Ring

The signet ring was once considered more authentic than a signature!

Originally, signet rings featured raised decorations and lettering. However, following the development of sealing wax, the designs were then imprinted into the ring. In the thirteenth century, these rings were very expensive in the UK and so families would possess a single ring. It would be passed down from father to son. Would you start a tradition and pass yours down to the next generation?

Signet Ring

You don’t have to have a family coat of arms to wear your own signet ring.

Today, the signet ring is very much back in fashion. Just one look at the hands of a runway model and it’s obvious, but what if you don’t have a family coat of arms? Going back to ancient Egyptian times again, a lot of the engraving on their rings would feature symbols. The beetle would symbolise the sun, for example. Do you have an affinity with a particular animal or element?

Signet Ring

Immortalise your connection with that special someone with an engraved signet.

One final idea if you are looking to purchase a signet ring as a gift for somebody: We can integrate birthstones and engrave initials into signet rings. If you have a message for your loved one, we can immortalise it into a signet ring so they can be reminded of it whenever they want.

If you feel like having your own personalised signet ring, please contact us via the link below. We take great pride in bringing people’s visions to life. Just remember that men wear the ring on the ring finger of their left hand and women wear it on the pinkie finger of their non-dominant hand. Browse our signet rings here.

Feel Like a Fashionista! Which Colours Suit Your Complexion?

Are you warm-coloured? How about cool or clear? Do you know which colours suit your complexion?

The colours you wear can really impact how you feel. This includes the clothes on your back and the jewellery you compliment them with. Similar to a piece of art, certain colours work well with others, and some don’t. Your body is like the canvas; however, it’s got a certain colour to it. Therefore, you need to consider which colours suit your complexion. Below, we’ve listed the colours that best match particular complexions. Find your colouring below and let us know if you agree!

Warm

Not sure if this is your tone? Roll up a sleeve and look at the veins on your wrist. If they look almost green, you have warm undertones. If they’re more of blue, you’re cool and should keep scrolling down.

For this tone, you should be looking for brown, orange and yellow in your clothing. For jewellery, gold is your metal of choice. Warm greens and reds work, too, so how about some subtle Tourmaline and Ruby earrings?

How about combining these to make a fashion statement?

Cool

Still not sure on what your complexion is? Take a look in the mirror. If your eyes are blue, grey or green, you’re cool-toned. If your eyes are brown or hazel, you’d better scroll back up to the warm section.

For you cool people, your best bet with clothes are the greens, blues and greys. What does this mean for jewellery? Avoid the yellow gold and look for silver or white gold. Try pairing a beautiful Green Emerald ring with an Amethyst necklace and Pearl earrings.

Unlike people with warm colouring, white gold is the friend of cool-coloured people.

Clear/Neutral

Do you liken yourself more to celebrities like Angelina Jolie and Rachel McAdams? You could very well have a clear or neutral tone. The great news for you is that pretty much any colour works very well for you! It really makes the task of choosing which colour suits your complexion, easy.

It’s best to choose the softer versions of a colour, but you’ll be very happy to know that a bright, eye-catching red lipstick will really suit you and turn heads everywhere you go. For your clothing, throw on some white and black. This will allow the beauty of your accessories to come through. If you want to really stand out, how about a Tanzanite pendant? Or a Ruby ring to compliment your red lips? If you’re feeling a little subtler, you can always go for some Sapphire earrings.

If you have clear skin colouring, bright and vibrant colours reign supreme.
