Unusual Aquamarine Eternity Rings

Our top twelve Unusual Aquamarine Eternity Rings? Aquamarine is one of our best selling gemstones. With its watery blue green sea tones it makes the perfect companion to diamonds. At 7 on the Mohs scale it wears well and is hard enough to withstand daily wear. It is is the birthstone for March and the gemstone used to celebrate the 19th wedding anniversary.

Eternity rings are traditionally gifted on the 10th wedding anniversary and if you are looking for something a little unusual then aquamarine is the perfect choice. It cones in a wide range of gemstone cuts from round brilliant, princess cut, the very popular emerald cut and the art deco favourite the baguette cut. All the designs in our eternity ring catalogue are available in aquamarine, on its own or mixed with diamond. Try it with green Tsavorite for a vibrant unusual mix! aquamarine looks equally good in both platinum, rose gold or yellow gold.

Aquamarine is a fascinatingly beautiful gemstone, it’s name comes from the Latin for seawater not just for it’s colour but because it was said to calm waves and keep sailors safe at sea. The best Aquamarines combine high clarity with limpid transparency shining over an extraordinarily beautiful range of blue to green colours. It occurs in large crystals inspiring creative gemstone designers to create new artistic cuts again and again due to it’s many good qualities and it’s hardness makes it very tough and protects it to a large extent from scratches. It is almost as popular as the classics: ruby, sapphire and emerald. The more intense the colour of an aquamarine, the more value is put on it.

Eternity Rings

Eternity ring being handmade

Eternity Rings crafted by Pruden and Smith are handmade producing unusual contemporary and vintage styles that are bespoke to you. A handmade eternity ring means we can match it to your existing wedding and engagement ring set. They can compliment your wedding set by being similar in style or a juxtaposition that is completely different in design but the contrast adds a refreshing new angle to your jewellery.

Platinum and Gold

We generally handmake eternity rings in platinum as it is hardwearing and adds physical longevity to a ring that marks the infinite significance of a relationship. We do use 18ct yellow gold or rose gold too, as this could match your wedding and engagement ring.

Diamonds and Rubies

Diamonds and rubies create a very striking look on Eternity Rings but other precious stones are available, Sapphires are popular and aquamarines particularly create a subtle yet chic element to this precious piece of jewellery.

It is now popular to flush set diamonds into a band of your choice. We do this in several designs, from evenly spaced to scattered generously around the ring using up to one hundred gemstones.

Unusual Eternity Rings

The inspiration for this years collection unusual eternity rings came from my daily lockdown walks along the Sussex coastline. The Sussex strandline, as it indiscriminately tumbles even the structures we put in place to control it, into a strata that will eventually record the Anthropocene. The stories of the materials and objects that wash up and those being uncovered from past millennia are observable in their past present and future forms, as they are churned and deconstructed Eastwards. Photographing, collecting, observing, recording and interacting with the experience and materials from the beach, looking at how we frame what we find, why we pick out a special pebble each time relates to our love of diamonds and gold as found materials that mystify us.

In a series of unusual organic form eternity rings we have started to explore these themes from this series of photos: stones “trapped” between two undulating hammered rings of gold to carved rocky formations using old cut diamonds.

I observed how form, colour and pattern are created through the interaction of these everchanging objects during this event: Pebble against pebble, Shingle against cliff, Oil mixing with sand, Metal melding with rock.

I love that rose gold and yellow gold has returned to the jewellers palette in the 2020’s and that all of the gold we now use is recycled or from gold provided from a clients old jewellery.

Ruby Eternity Rings Handmade in Sussex

Ruby eternity rings are a wonderful alternative to a purely diamond eternity ring. Perfect for anyone who loves a splash of colour. Rubies are also the birthstone for July, and the traditional wedding anniversary gift for the 40th wedding anniversary. Ruby works particularly well with diamonds for contrast. You can also combine rubies with other gemstones such as sapphires. Rubies can be cut into many different shapes, we love to create unusual eternity rings with square or baguette cut rubies.

Ruby Eternity Rings: Ruby Old Cut Diamond Eternity Ring square emerald ruby eternity ring ruby diamond baguette eternity ring

By far the most popular combination for a ruby eternity ring, is to set the rubies with diamonds in yellow gold. The warmth of the gold brings out the red in the rubies and the cool white diamonds provide contrast. Rubies also look fabulous in platinum or white gold, the vivid red really stands out against the white metal. When choosing an eternity ring it is important to consider what you will wear it next to. If you are going to be wearing the ring next to another ring then it must be made from the same metal. Some people choose to wear their eternity ring on another finger so that they can choose something a little bit different to their existing jewellery.

Many of our ruby eternity rings have rubover settings where the rubies are fully enclosed in a metal surround. This setting style is very popular because of its contemporary style and because they are very practical to wear. Other setting styles include claw set and channel set. Sometimes these styles can be ideal when you are matching an existing ring set in this way.

Unusual Ruby Eternity Rings

If you are looking for a ring that will stand alone you can get really creative. You can also choose a more substantial design. We love to create these really unusual pieces. Here are a few of our favourites:

Ruby Eternity Rings side hammered ruby side hammered ring

Our Ruby Eternity Ring Side Hammered is a great design if you are looking for something a bit chunkier. The rubies measure 6x4mm and the overall width of the finished ring is 10mm. The undulating edge of the side-hammered metal gives it a fluid organic feel.

3 colour stacking bubbles ring ruby and diamond bubbles eternity

Wider rings don’t necessarily have to have larger stones. These two rings are made up of lots of smaller diamonds and rubies to create a wider band overall. With this look you can either create a single wide band or stack of three narrower rings that slot together to create the wider effect.

Another way to create a band with more impact is with the metalwork itself. This intricate filigree style ring is ornate and impactful whilst also remaining delicate and feminine.

Rose Gold Makes A Comeback For Eternity and Engagement Rings

Rose Gold Makes A Comeback For Eternity and Engagement Rings: Rose gold gets it’s colour from the addition of copper to the alloy. Don’t worry! There’s just as much gold in the rings weather you choose 9ct or 18ct. Older golds often look a pale rose colour for the same reason, the modern alloys have a stronger salmon colour. You can see the contrast of colours in the Russian style wedding band below where it is contrasted with white and yellow gold. Of course any of our designs can be made in rose gold as all our work is bespoke and made to order. Here are some examples that we have made recently to inspire you.

Our most popular design this year for eternity and wedding bands has hands down been our “Side Hammered” and “Trap” collections. Ever evolving as each client orders their own favourite version of the theme.

You can choose the width and colours of the bands and the side hammering gives them this organic look. For a wedding band keep them plain. for an eternity ring there’s a perfect gap to “Trap” full of diamonds.

The Russian wedding ring has an unusual rough hammered finish but of course you can have it polished too. Or how about a traditional seal engraved signet ring as a mans wedding ring?

Rose gold is associated with the Victorian Era so our “Vintage Look” collection of Engagement and Wedding Rings is often requested to be made in rose gold. Amethyst is another popular Victorian era gemstone which looks fabulous with rose gold. the Vintage collection makes use of fine beading around the settings to get the look. Pictured left to right are a pave set diamond fitted wedding band, a diamond and rose gold cluster trilogy engagement ring, A Rose gold and diamond solitaire engagement ring with amethyst set leaves with the bridal gift earrings that match it.

Our Moi et Toi rings are ever popular as an engagement ring with their obvious symbolism. We love these to set with and emerald and a diamond and the other with morganite. The peened rose gold cuff bangle is an example of some older gold melted down using our “recycle your old gold into something new” scheme. Its often a surprise what colour the gold turns out, especially if it is a large amount. Alchemy! Sometimes the yellow turns pinkish and at other times the pink turns yellow but its always beautiful and full of family memories. A great way to update old jewellery and create an heirloom piece.

So many gemstones look great in rose gold and here’s another amethyst dress ring example, yum, I do love purple and red together. Organic Eternity Rings Inspired by the Beach

As jewellery designers, inspiration can be found all around us. Rebecca’s organic eternity rings inspired by the beach reference the qualities of stone and water as a symbol of tranquillity and balance in spirituality. The collection is called the “Trap” collection and is named after her photography project by the same name. Her photographs capture pebbles wedged in weathered wood and rusty metal by the ocean. These observations led to a collection of side hammered rings with trapped diamonds.

Organic Eternity Rings Inspired by the Beach Organic Eternity Rings: Organic Eternity Rings in Platinum Gold and Diamond Organic Eternity Rings: Engraved Two Colour Diamond Eternity Ring

“My work explores snapshots in time from the natural world: Something suspended mid-air, balanced just before falling or wedged somewhere improbable. The age and permanence of rocks and hardwoods, the working of the sea to wear them away is akin to how we work precious metals: the hands that form them into objects. There is life and great beauty in both the activity and in the moment observed: Referencing a place for reflection on our own history and place in the natural world.”

Organic Eternity Rings Inspired by the Beach: custom designed and handmade to order

These unusual eternity rings are the perfect choice if you are looking for something a little different but practical enough to wear every day. They can be made in rose gold, yellow gold and platinum, or a combination of metals for a striking two-tone effect. The organic nature of this versatile design also makes it perfect redesigning old jewellery with stones of varying shape and size.

Bespoke Eternity Rings

Bespoke Eternity Rings can create a fun ring that really expresses who you are. Often given on the birth of a child or on a special partnership or wedding anniversary or maybe you just want one! Our designers Rebecca Smith or Suzy Dunford-Gent will speak with you about exactly what it is that you want to achieve either for your self or as a surprise for a loved one. Browse our website for an idea of what you like or come and try on one of the many samples that we keep in our gallery.

We can also include your own metals, diamonds and gemstones of sentimental value. Getting creative with your own gemstones and redesigning your inherited jewellery lends a novel look to any ring as we have to incorporate unusual combinations of gemstone size and colour.

The bespoke eternity rings pictured below have all been made with a clients inherited rubies and diamonds:

Eternity rings are often worn along side an engagement ring and wedding ring set. It is ideal if the set of rings are designed together even if they are not all made at once. The wedding ring is usually worn between the two gemset rings which prevents them from rubbing on the settings of the stones. It also provides a visual break between two more complex designs. It is worth considering your setting style for maximum life time of a ring that has to tolerate being rubbed against another. You will notice that most of our designs have a strong metal edge to them to protect against this.

Matching the shape and look of an existing engagement ring is another reason to choose a bespoke engagement ring

Stand alone eternity rings

Without the restriction of having to fit on a finger with two other rings the eternity ring can become more of a dress ring in size. It allows us to design in the look of a number of rings stacked together like the two row bubbles ring, three row side hammered ring, two row baguette diamond ring or the revolving two band eternity ring. The eternity aspect in the name of the ring is symbolized by the stones running all the way around the ring known as a full eternity. These are lovely rings but its also worth considering the advantages of a half eternity ring. Half eternity rings can have the stones set anywhere from 40% to 60% around the ring. Over time this does have the advantage of being much more easily resized than a full eternity ring.

You could base your ring on the birthstone of the recipient. You could include the birthstone of each member of your family. You could choose your favorite colour, or an inspirational or healing gemstone. Consider what really catches your eye and imagination? Its always important to try on something similar before commissioning and we keep many samples for this reason. Often what you love on the shelf isn’t what you feel comfortable wearing every day. It is always our aim to provide you with not only an expertly made ring that will stand the test of continuous wear over time but a ring that your will love for years to come because it expresses who you are. Unique, unusual and special.

Creative Eternity Rings

There are many starting points to beginning the process of designing our Creative eternity rings. One of our recent favorites is this 18ct yellow gold and old cut diamond eternity ring. The diamonds themselves inspired the piece. They were unset from a clients old jewellery. As they were being removed from metalwork that was designed to make them look as round as possible their lovely rocky shapes were revealed. Old cut or “mine cut” diamonds were cut in a time where it was impossible to achieve the many exactly measured facets of a modern round brilliant diamond. They had to be cut by a method called “bruting” quite literally the bashing of one mounted diamond against another as it turned on a lathe. This gives an unevenness to the facets and a thickness to the diamond. We wanted to emphasise the lovely rocky shapes rather than hide them. This ring was carved from a single piece of 18ct yellow gold. First wrapped round into the right size of ring shape. Then drilled and carved to fit each diamonds’ own unique shape. There were enough left over to also create a pair of bespoke diamond earstuds using the same technique.

Old Cut Diamond Cluster earstudsRecycle your old cut diamond bubbles eternity ring Recycled Old Cut Diamond Eternity RingBespoke Old cut bubbles eternity ring

Carving was also used to cut into the surface of one of our side hammered rings. I call it carving as it is deeper than you would normally engrave, though we tried to achieve a “bright cut” look to the pattern. Diamond “islands” have been positioned into the “water” pattern using panels of 18ct yellow gold.

engraved two colour diamond trap ringunusual creative carved eternity ringbespoke two colour gold diamond eternity ring

Photography of natural forms and patterns has always been an influence on our design work as has working with the materials themselves. Our love of hammered and textured surfaces all comes from seeing these effects appear as we are working the precious metals.
