Gold Nugget Jewellery From Recycled Gold

All our gold nugget jewellery is made from recycled gold. If you have your own old gold jewellery it is an ideal way to update it. The beads are “free cast” by hand without a mold so each one is individual. As the gold cools without a mold it shrinks slightly giving a rough surface to the nugget making it look like a natural found nugget of gold. This finish is know as “reticulation”. Pictured below is our classic necklace, bracelet and earstuds combo. This set has been made with a mixture of sizes, from 3mm to 8mm and is our current favourite. Strung on tiger tail with our classic hallmarked s catch.

Recently we had lots of fun recycling someones old jewellery in three different colours of gold: yellow, rose and white. Of course if you don’t have your own gold we can still make you one.

Three Colour Gold Nugget Bracelet

A great option if you have just a small amount of gold to be repurposed is to combine it with our silver nuggets. This necklet is made from a single heavy weight wedding band.

Redesigning Old Jewellery of Sentimental Value

Redesigning Old Jewellery of Sentimental Value is a magicians art. Take a look at the picture of a jumble of chains, bangles and rings below. It probably looks similar to an area in a drawer in the attic or a bag in your jewellery box that contains past treasures and precious memories. The mixture of metals will range from rich yellow to rose and white of differing carats. The three colour gold nugget bracelet was made for just such a tangle! The cost of making it was entirely paid for with the unwanted gold sovereigns. This mix of metal will also melt and mill nicely into a set of gold bangles.

Redesigning Old Diamond Jewellery of Sentimental Value can produce some gorgeous contemporary pieces of jewellery. The old mine cut and European cut diamond features in so much jewellery from the last century. They are packed into settings that aim to make them look as round as possible. They were cut before modern faceting methods were available and their true shape has a rocky uneven nature and are transformed in the carved rings and earrings below that take advantage of showing this off to the full.

Redesign old jewellery

There are many reasons for redesigning your old jewellery. It may hold sentimental memories of loved ones or events. It’s ethical as no more stones or metals have to be mined. It saves you money.

It doesn’t matter what condition it is in. Stones can be re-polished, old metal can be melted down and milled into new sheet and wire.

The first part of the process is to have a free hours appointment with either Suzy or Rebecca our designers. They will talk to you about the meaning the jewellery has to you and what you would like to achieve by redesigning it. You jewellery is then checked in for testing. Again for no charge, an inventory of the type and value of the metal will be drawn up along with a list of usable gems. Sometimes we can also incorporate materials of no value other than that they are special to you.

We will then make you some sketches showing what can be made. If you like them a 50% deposit is paid and your design will be handmade in our Ditchling, Sussex workshops in 4 to 8 weeks. You can use any re-purposed metals to offset the labour costs.

There are many samples on our website and in our gallery that show hoe lots of miss matched jewellery can be made into one or a set of pieces that you can enjoy wearing again or gift to other members of your family.

If you are asking the questions, How to sell gold jewellery? where to sell gold jewellery? How to sell gold jewellery for cash? or who buys gold jewellery?

Here is your answer, because here at Pruden and Smith we buy your scrap gold giving you the best prices around. We also can take any of the other precious metals: silver, gold and platinum that you wish to turn into cash.

We can buy your scrap of gold and other precious metals.

Redesign your old jewellery

Some of your old jewellery will be of sentimental value so instead of getting money for your old gold we redesign it for you. In a process called “A precious legacy” we work with you to reuse the precious metal, diamonds and gemstones into a fabulous new set of jewellery that you will love to wear everyday. We offer a free design consultation where your jewellery is assessed for re-use. Metal type is tested, diamonds are tested and we make an inventory of all the materials that mean the most to you or are most valuable. We then make design proposals based on the designs that you like from our collection of how everything can be reused and a budget. You may then proceed with one or all of the pieces that have been proposed. Sometimes there is enough surplus scrap metal to go towards paying for the labour on the making of the jewellery, otherwise you just pay for the labour. the finished pieces are worth much more in both sentimental and financial terms.

We also recycle gold and platinum.

Once tested it is melted in a crucible like the one above and milled out into sheet or wire and sent to the assay office for marking and testing and is then ready to be used in a new piece of jewellery. We do this for environmental and sometimes sentimental reasons if the gold is coming from a treasured inherited piece of jewellery. With the pound so low the cost of precious metals and gemstones, which are all imported, has risen. This means for UK residents there has never been a better time to consider recycling your old jewellery into a fabulous new design. Here are some examples of gold, diamonds and gemstones that have been recycled from another piece of jewellery.

Diamond Ring Commission – 5 Stone Diamond Rubover Ring

Our latest diamond ring commission was designed to incorporate reclaimed diamonds from unwanted jewellery and was handmade in our workshop in new palladium. These diamonds were originally set in yellow gold but the client preferred white metal so we bought the scrap gold and the client put the money towards the cost of the new ring. Selling scrap gold is an excellent way to fund the redesign or restoration of a ring.

We love to recycle gold, platinum, diamonds and gemstones from old jewellery that our clients no longer wear and remodel the materials into a contemporary design. When people have old jewellery they no longer wear or inherit pieces of jewellery that are not to their taste, redesigning them is a great way to give the materials a new lease of life.

If you are considering having your old jewellery remodelled all you have to do it book a design consultation with our designer Rebecca Smith. In our gallery you can view and try on samples of some of the designs we do and Rebecca will guide you through the commissioning process.

Call us on 01273 846338 or email us at info@prelive.prudenandsmith.com to book your design consultation.
