Boho Chic Jewellery For 2017

Silver and silver gilt (gold plated silver) “Boho Chic Jewellery” or “hippy chic” jewellery has never been more popular and is influencing our new jewellery collections. With it’s mix and match, multi coloured vibrancy these pieces are celebratory in nature. Perfect for driving away the Winter blues and spicing up your Christmas Look. The fashion has it’s roots in tribal jewellery both ancient and modern from around the world. Inspired by naturally occurring materials: rough gemstones, shells, seeds, fossils, feathers  combined with manufactured objects: gold and silver beads and found objects: antique greek coins and pieces of roman glass.

My current favourite statement necklaces: Limited edition Emerald Cleopatra Necklace, Roman Glass Necklace, Rough Sapphire Necklace and Bracelet. These striking contemporary necklaces use gemstones in its naturally occurring rough form. The Roman glass has been buried for hundreds of years giving it it’s antique finish.

A big part of our silver range consists of brooches. Many of the brooches are inspired by the designs of Dunstan Pruden. However, this silver heart brooch is our own design.

Handmade Amethyst Jewellery – The February Birthstone

Handmade Amethyst Jewellery – The February Birthstone. Amethyst, the birthstone for February is a type of quartz and ranges in colour from an almost colourless lilac to a rich velvety purple and is the most valuable of the quartzes. It lends itself well to all kinds of jewellery including: stacking rings, unusual dress rings and even engagement rings. The tone of the colour in amethyst is affected by the level of iron impurities contained within it, though can also be affected by irradiation (used to produce synthetic amethyst) and heat. Heating a natural purple coloured amethyst can cause the stone to resemble a citrine, which is yellow / brown in colour. The best quality natural amethyst comes from the Russian Siberian Ural

mountains and has a rich purple colour known as ‘Deep Siberian’. The highest grades are very rare, though not as valuable as the highest grade sapphires or rubies.  Other sources of good quality stones are Sri Lanka and Brazil. The name ‘Amethyst’ is rooted in Greek, who held a cultural belief that the semi-precious stone protected its owner from drunkenness. Amethyst has been used to produce jewellery since Egyptian times and continues to be used widely today.

Here at Pruden and Smith we pride ourselves in our local Sussex connections. We are a Jeweller in East Sussex, covering the whole of the UK with our online shop.

Anton’s grandfather Dunstan Pruden was the silversmith in the Eric Gill-founded Guild of St. Joseph & Dominic on Ditchling common

and though this was a new family direction, Pruden & Smith are deeply rooted in the East Sussex countryside and locality.

 

Serving both East and West Sussex, there is wide interest in a proper contemporary jewellery design-led shop and workshop.
Surrounding East Sussex towns such as Haywards Heath and Burgess Hill all have High Street jewellers but no workshops that can provide such a very wide range of services.
